Energy Conservation
Students appear on the weekly televised announcements. They give updates on Green School activites and upcoming events. They also give reminders about turning off lights and saving water. The students are ready to tell about how recycling saves energy. They are wearing fashion items made from recycled materials. (November 2016)
Students reading during Earh Hour (March 2016)
In the 1st quarter of the 4th Grade Science curriculum, students learned how we get energy from natural resources. Students discussed the positive and negative effects on the environment from obtaining energy from natural resources. They learned that some sources of energy are non-renewable. Students discussed ways to conserve energy. They also watched a video on energy conservation.
In the classroom, teachers worked with students to determine a list of ways that they could help to conserve energy at home and at school. Some of the ideas that were discussed were turning off lights, saving hot water, turning heat down at the thermostat, and walking to school.
To educate students in the school about energy conservation, students made signs that reminded students and staff to turn off the lights when leaving the classroom. These signs were placed near the light switches in the classrooms. Since these signs have been placed in the classroom, students have been more aware of how they can help save energy in our school.
